We must be careful with the elements

October 04,2018 12:55

The National Assembly needs to dissolve, and we need to have a new parliament- the sooner, the better. I, however, don’t trust that there will be more modest people in that National Assembly or especially more professional people. But the new parliament, as a state body, will enjoy the trust of the majority of Armenian citizens, at least during the first two years. That is absolutely necessary for Armenia. Besides that, this uncertain, “temporary” period will be over, which will allow our country to solve the most important problems (first and foremost, economic) and foreign affairs. Of course, having a new parliament does not guarantee that those problems will be fixed, but it does create a possibility of fixing them, which we do not have now.

The RPA, Prosperous Armenia and ARF “demarche” (from a standpoint of initiating changes in the laws) wasn’t appropriate, accounted for, and it wouldn’t have benefited the political parties in any way. However, their approach was understandable, from a humane point of view. It was promised that there will be elections within one year, but after the Yerevan City Council elections, the decision quickly changed. That time period was cut in half. Just as they say, there were dizzying results.

In order to achieve its goals, the government needs to show strength. Its strength is in the unconditional support of the majority of citizens. But just as any other strength, it needs to be utilized carefully, especially when it’s an element. It is changeable, and you don’t know when it will be turned around. It’s a historical fact that to incite hatred and vengefulness is a weapon that could come back to haunt the people who made use of it at any point. Not only politicians but also all famous figures in society are on a mission to not get upset. We can’t prevent the occasional swears or curses on the streets, but we can not allow for those to win.

I don’t see any danger at the moment that the parliamentarians will nominate another candidate when the prime minister resigns. That will bring forth such terrible wrath that even the authorities probably wouldn’t be able to control it whatsoever. The parliamentarians understand I think, that despite everything, that’s just as meaningless as their latest “demarche.”

And finally. That “resigning and not nominating a new Prime Minister” process needs to be postponed for a few days, Precisely, it needs to wait until October 13th, when the summit will be over. I don’t think that there’s any need to explain why.
