PM meets with Moldovan President, Belgian Prime Minister and UNESCO Director- General on the sidelines of OIF Summit

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Moldovan President Igor Dodon in the framework of the 17th Francophonie Summit in Yerevan.

The President of Moldova felicitated Nikol Pashinyan for high-level organization of the Summit and expressed confidence that the discussions would be effective in a way to further develop the Organization and promote cooperation between member States.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including bilateral economic cooperation development prospects. Nikol Pashinyan attached importance to the furtherance and expansion of relations with Moldova, noting that the Armenian government is keen to develop and implement mutually beneficial projects with Moldova.

During his meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel, Nikol Pashinyan extended a warm welcome to Yerevan, thanking him for accepting the invitation and visiting Armenia. The head of the Armenian government called the Belgian Premier’s visit of special importance in this period, considering Belgium’s hectic international agenda. Nikol Pashinyan noted that Charles Michel is deemed to be a friend in Armenia for his pro-Armenian activities and attitude.

For his part, Charles Michel praised the Armenian authorities’ efforts in organizing the 17th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie and expressed satisfaction with its proceedings. The Belgian Prime Minister pointed out that by hosting the Summit Armenia has become a focal point for the Francophone countries and the international community, in general.

As they looked at ways of developing the Armenian-Belgian ties, the parties touched upon the status of those arrangements made during their previous meeting, as well as on the possibilities for expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation within the framework of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Later today, Prime Minister Pashinyan met with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. Nikol Pashinyan highly appreciated the UNESCO Director-General’s participation in the Francophone Summit, which is a good opportunity to discuss cooperation issues in both bilateral and multilateral formats within the framework of the International Organization of La Francophonie, as well as review the pace of joint programs.

The Prime Minister noted that Armenia is eager to upgrade the bonds of sustainable cooperation with UNESCO and, in this context, hailed UNESCO’s consistent focus on the preservation of cultural heritage in the region.

The UNESCO Director-General first complimented the head of the Armenian government for organizing the OIF Summit at the highest level and went on to note that she was glad to be in Yerevan and attend this important event, which brings together the Francophone nations.

During the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon the ongoing cooperation between UNESCO and Armenia, the goals and objectives of the Organization. They specifically referred to the prospects of cooperation in the fields of science, education and cultural heritage.
