“Did you know that Vazgen Sargsyan was never in favor of shooting? He was not a murderer, and it’s in vain that people try to portray such an image of him,” deputy candidate from the ‘Menk (Us)’ alliance, head of the Republic party, and Vazgen Sargsyan’s brother Aram Sargsyan told Aravot. He was referring to RPA candidate and former head of the NSS David Shahnazaryan’s announcement that former Prime Minister and first Defense Minister Vazgen Sargsyan wanted to shoot the head of the Sasun battalion, Sasun Mikayelyan, in 1994, for giving up the Armenian positions in Omar.
Aram Sargsyan said, “I know that Vazgen Sargsyan gave Sasun Mikayelyan many medals and awards. He was one of Vazgen’s most dedicated people. When speaking about Vazgen, Sasun always says, ‘If Vazgen ordered me to kill myself, I would do it.’ Therefore, it would be best if David Shahnazaryan would remember that Sasun Mikayelyan and his men freed territories, not how they surrendered in certain places and how much. Let’s say they surrendered, so what? It was a war. People surrender in war, and then they come back and free new territories. Therefore, remembering such things is shameful.”
According to Aram Sargsyan, such speeches should not be discussed during the election campaigns, because everything will not be complete on December 9th.
