The difference in the media’s understanding

November 29,2019 13:10

CNN, which is funded by the current US President’s opposition, has a special program titled “All the President՚s Lies.” This program takes statements made by Trump, as well as texts written outside the media, and finds mistakes according to arguments presented by experts, scientists, and commentators. For people who have some expertise in television, it is clear how the program’s coordinators take and edit statements from Trump that will be beneficial for them to strengthen their influence on the audience.

It’s not that Trump never lies. Sometimes, he confuses the public both in his country and outside in order to achieve his goals, just as all politicians and leaders do. For example, CNN has guessed correctly that Trump did not actually take American soldiers out of the northern part of Syria as he said he did; he simply left the Kurds alone against Turks. But overall, it is clear that the TV channel is biased. For example, Trump proudly speaks about economic achievements, but then the channel switches to a segment about a woman who sells crabs, but she is not able to sell them because she doesn’t have customers. The journalist asks the woman what would happen if Trump is re-elected (the entire issue is the 2020 presidential election), and the woman responds, “Well, if he gets re-elected, we’re done for.” So, the authorities are saying that the country is fluorishing, but the opposition and Trump’s competition in the 2020 elections claim that the country is being destroyed. Doesn’t this sound familiar?

The difference between the US and Armenia, in my opinion, is that Americans are not gullible and passionate like Armenians. Yes, it’s normal for a news channel to propagate for or against one side. No one is saying “how can you dare to say something about our dear President!” or just the opposite- “wow, good job, I like your spirit!” If someone is propagating, let them do so as that’s their right. I will listen to what they’re saying and decide for myself. Or, I won’t listen at all. These are the conditions in which non-biased media outlets are commended because they don’t “praise” anyone.

If we were to judge things based on CNN (which is the only “open” American television channel in Armenia) then Trump is a crazy clown who does not understand the value of his words. But there are many Americans (perhaps the majority) that value what their president has to say. But they also are not crazy about their president.
