The Amulsar protesters gathered in front of the National Assembly building on August 10th to play ball. Some of them were playing, but others were carrying posters and chanting, “Amulsar is a mountain, this is a fair fight.”
Police officers approached the protesters and gave them two minutes to leave. If they didn’t leave, they would be taken into custody for refusing to follow the officers’ legal orders. The police officers explained that this is considered to be a protest due to their posters. The protesters argued that they were simply playing ball. The officer responded that they needed to get rid of the posters if that were the case. Tehmine Yenokyan raised her poster and exclaimed that she was protesting on her own.
“If you try to take me into custody, then you need to tell me why you didn’t do so when I was protesting in front of the Ministry of Environment. These are double and triple standards. I was protesting in front of the Ministry of Environment with the same poster but you didn’t take me into custody, now you will,” she said to the officer.
