Several police officers from Gyumri died during the war in Artsakh. They rushed to Artsakh with great love and preparedness. One of the officers, Srap Shahinyan, born in 1991, was a student at the Shirak State University’s Faculty of Law. He graduated from the No. 20 English school named after George Byron. His Armenian language and literature teacher, Satenik Gevorgyan, said that she taught Srap Shahinyan for five years in a row.

“He was self-contained and didn’t talk much. But you felt the Motherland in him from a young age. I knew that he was going to become a policeman and continue his father’s work. He was a great person, very caring. I couldn’t imagine his death even in my worst dreams. I saw him ten days ago. He was on duty on Ryzhkov Street. I heard a familiar voice ask me, ‘How are you doing, Mrs. Gevorgyan? Take care of yourself, don’t get sick, I care about you very much,’” the teacher mourned.

The teacher was unable to hide her tears throughout the entire interview.

She said, “My conscience is clear since I never made Srap upset. Otherwise, I never would’ve been able to forgive myself. I pray that we have no more casualties, and that we have victories without anyone else dying.” Srap is married and has a daughter.

Another police officer who died in service of the Motherland is Khachik Karapetyan, who was born in 1978. He was also a student at the Shirak State University’s Faculty of Law. He studied part-time and graduated this year.

The dean of the Department of Social Sciences and Law Studies, Ofelya Hovhannisyan, told Aravot Daily that there were many police officers in Khachik’s class, but he was unique due to his sense of responsibility and punctuality.

The faculty, staff, and students of the Shirak State University express their condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of these worthy children of our homeland who died on the path to victory. Eternal glory to our heroes who died in the line of duty.”
