As in previous decades, today’s ‘post-revolutionary’ police continue to arrest and beat opposition protesters while the NSS and other security forces continue to ‘crack down’ on the opposition with accusations becoming more and more absurd and ‘fake.’
As in previous decades, everything in this state depends on the whims of one person: whomever the king will ‘anoint’ as his investigators and preachers will be the target of persecution. Human rights activists and other NGOs used to justifiably raise their voices against it, but now they do not notice it (there may be special exceptions). Or they may notice, but the grantees tell them, “Don’t mention anything.”
I have never liked the manifestations of authoritarian rule, the most obvious of which is ‘filing cases’ against opponents. I think that the regular readers of Aravot Daily will remember what our position was when Ashot Bleyan was tried in the ‘roof case’ where dozens of Stepan Demirchyan’s supporters were arrested and where they caught Alexander Arzumanyan in the money laundering scheme. I have repeatedly spoken out against the unfounded persecution of members of the Armenian National Congress and its supporters, including Nikol Pashinyan.
Personal or political opinions are not important here. Principles are important, which are ‘variables’ not only in politics, but as you can also see, in public figures.

Moreover, I have no doubt that after the next change of government, the new government will prosecute Pashinyan for treason (which is probably why he is making a bigger effort to stay in office than his three predecessors). The theory that the current Prime Minister had an agreement with Aliyev and international ‘dark forces’ in advance to hand over Artsakh will be propagated at the state level. We will enter a long, exhausting period of trials against Pashinyan and his entourage. There will be other cases opened, including (do not be surprised) corruption. But I am sure that the accusations of state treason are false. Ignorant and incompetent leadership that caused ‘complications’ and chaos during the war (and not only then) has nothing to do with betrayal.
As of today, I assure you that after the change of power, I will defend Pashinyan and members of My Step from unfounded criminal accusations. If, of course, that change of government takes place during my lifetime.
