“I think that there need to be encouraging things. We should not wait for that, but act on it. But I also want to note that if this goes on- slowly handing over hectares and kilometers- then culture and economy can also be handed over to powerful, young, aggressive states. Life has shown through the pages of history that the old states are not as aggressive as the new ones,” Tigran Hekekyan, the artistic director and chief conductor of the Little Singers of Armenia choir, said at the Hayeli press club.
“Before we even clarified who was to blame and who was innocent, the first question we needed to ask the day after our defeat was what we need to do in order to change the situation in the near or even far future, and not only partially, but drastically recover at least what we had. That is why I made my statement about how we need to unite and give the wheel of power to professionals, including lawyers, historians, scientists, and artists- everyone who is a professional in their field,” the conductor said.
In Tigran Hekekyan’s opinion, national ideology is often mentioned, but most people who are speaking about it are unable to provide a formula for that. “Ask anyone who is talking about that to provide a formula for what national ideology is. I doubt that even a small number of people will be able to provide an explanation or commentary for that. First, there are professionals and scientists for that who are sitting at home, disappointed, with their teeth clenched…”
In his opinion, we are currently in a catastrophic situation. “Society and the people do not have any goals, visions, or ideology. There is no one whom they trust. Everything has reached the point that we do not even trust our neighbors or friends. People do not even trust their brothers. Families of 4-5 people argue with one another over differing opinions, friends do not talk to one another because they have different opinions… But they all seem to be calm and educated people- scientists, teachers, doctors… Why have we become so lazy and small?… And everyone in our country from its leaders to janitors, teachers to scientists speak about small issues instead of big ideas.”

Tigran Hekekyan emphasized that Turkey and Azerbaijan never concealed their intentions. “No one has enemies like that in the world. Those people do what they say they will. Turks intended to make that part of the world theirs in the 1900s through massacre, genocide, and conquering… They did as little as they could until the Russians kept it for the sake of communism while giving them money, weapons, and gold. They turned their backs and said that we will do the rest… Unfortunately, our people always rely on God instead of having other relations with God… I also have musicologist friends who say ‘Who will let them attack Armenia?’”
