The former youth park (better known as the Komsomol Park) on Vazgen Sargsyan Street in central Gyumri has been turned into a Domus warehouse. By destroying the green zone, the establishment of the structure considered “stupid” and “ugly” by the people of Gyumri has caused a lot of controversy in the city. The name of someone close to Nikol Pashinyan is mentioned as a potential sponsor. Many people in Gyumri are shocked and insulted by such treatment. Their opinion was not at all considered, and public hearings did not even take place. They claim that they will do everything to remove the warehouse from the green zone.
The university of economics, colleges, and schools are located in that area, and instead of establishing a youth and student environment there, the current authorities continue the working style of the former authorities. There are tense discussions on this subject in several Facebook groups created by people from Gyumri. The people of Gyumri demand that the warehouse immediately be demolished and that a criminal case be opened against those people who have changed the operational significance of the green zone, subordinating public interest to the personal interests of a business owner.
The prosecutor of Shirak, Gurgen Grigoryan, responded to our publication. At his order, Aravot Daily’s publication titled “A wave of protests is maturing in Gyumri, a warehouse is being built under the auspices of destroying the park” was sent to the Shirak Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigation Committee today with a demand to prepare materials and solve the process.
