May 20,2022 13:33

The EU4Culture project today launches the EU4Culture Cities Network, bringing together 14 selected cities from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, which have received EU funding to prepare Cultural Development Strategies.

The network will be launched at EU4Culture’s Regional Network Conference in Tbilisi on 19-20 May, and will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the 14 cities.

The chosen cities are:

Armenia: Charentsavan, Ijevan, Sevan

Azerbaijan: Khirdalan, Lankaran, Shaki

Georgia: Kutaisi, Poti, Zugdidi

Republic of Moldova: Cahul, Orhei

Ukraine: Poltava, Rivne, Vinnytsia

Mayors and other representatives of the selected cities, representatives of the EU Delegation to Georgia and the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth, together with experts and other stakeholders will participate in the event.

“The EU4Culture Cities Network offers a unique opportunity to the cities in the Eastern Partnership countries to create a trusted and long-lasting cooperation platform that will enable open sharing of best practices and experiences in culture and the creative sector,” said Dr. Anatoli Beifert, Team Leader of the EU4Culture project.

The main objectives of the two-day conference are to:

  • Establish the EU4Culture Cities Network and formalise its operation.
  • Present best practices on joint cultural events and partnership development.
  • Introduce upcoming funding opportunities from the EU4Culture project and present funding possibilities from different donor organisations.

The 14 chosen cities will receive EU grants of up to €30,000 each to elaborate their Cultural Development Strategies. One city from each country will then be awarded a further grant of up to €300,000 to implement its strategy.

EU4Culture is a four-year project funded by the European Union to support culture and the creative sector with a special focus on non-capital cities and towns in the Eastern Partnership Countries.
