“The situation and conditions happening to us now are ethnic cleansings, and the presence of 2,000 Russian soldiers and officers here is an essential security component. Yes, not completely and, unfortunately, with limitations,” former Minister of State of Artsakh Ruben Vardanyan stated during a question-and-answer session on the Telegram channel, responding to the question of one of his followers: “In this situation, can the people of Artsakh rely on Russian peacekeepers, and taking into account the existing violations what would you rate the peacekeeping mission?
Ruben Vardanyan said: “They have a limited mandate and weapons, but I am sure that a lot also depends on us. Suppose we unite as much as possible and show the world that we will not be part of Azerbaijan and will do everything to live on our land. In that case, I am sure that Russia and the international community will do everything possible so that the peacekeepers have a long-term mandate and serious armaments.”
Another follower asked: “If you are honest, can you say that Armenia is doomed to assimilate with the stronger countries of the region, “friendly” or not?” Ruben Vardanyan answered: “I am convinced that each of us has a great power and an opportunity to influence what is happening now in Artsakh, Armenia, and the Armenian world. Everyone should decide how important are the issue of the homeland and Armenian values for him. If the answer is affirmative, then everything is easy. Even in sleep, a person should do what helps the motherland to be strong. Therefore, each of us must answer the question: what is the motherland, and what am I ready for it?”
