Civil Contact members claim that Armenia is making independent decisions for the first time in 32 years. On the other hand, their “boss” actually admitted in the last interview that he is changing the Constitution at Aliyev’s request so that we don’t make the “bull” mad with a “red cloth,” that is, with the Declaration of Independence. It’s a beautiful “self-identity”.
It’s a beautiful “self-identity”. I believe a sovereign state is one whose army can protect its territorial integrity. As soon as the Armenian army can throw out the Azerbaijanis from the 200 square kilometers of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, then it will be possible to talk about sovereignty.
It seems to me that Pashinyan’s supporters are using the word “colonialism” wrongly, presenting their leader as the standard bearer of the fight against “colonization.” First, I am sure that neither Soviet nor independent Armenia was a “colony of Russia.” The other republics were not there either. To say otherwise would be a massive compliment to Russia. But that’s a separate conversation that won’t fit within the confines of one computer page.
Suppose Armenia was a “colony” between 1991 and 2018, and then “Nikol-liberator” came and saved us from slavery. What “anti-colonial” steps is Pashinyan taking? Did he remove the 102nd military base? Did he leave the CSTO? Did he replace the Russian border guards with RA border guards on the border between Turkey and Iran? The current government has not taken any significant anti-Russian steps. And all this “anti-Russian” rhetoric is needed to justify the disaster that the same government brought to Armenia and the Armenian people.
