Ever since I started making videos on a daily basis on various social platforms, I have been receiving abusive comments regularly. But I’m not angry, I’m not offended, I’m not deleting them, and I’m not going to complain to law enforcement. Moreover, it seems to me that in this case, I am somehow acting as a psychotherapist. Let me explain how.
Imagine a person who has a serious psychological problem: they did not feel parental affection as a child, or they were bullied in the yard, or now they have irreversible physiological changes. In such situations, the desire to love someone and, accordingly, to hate someone intensifies. Before, it was said “hate the Turks,” and people sublimated their energy in that direction. Now the government says that there is no need to hate Turks, and in that respect, it is correct.
But you gotta hate somebody, right? Therefore, it is suggested to hate the “formers.” And who should be loved is clear: the one who freed the “people” from those “formers.” For that love and hate, we need channels, and those channels are primarily on social platforms. Therefore, when I see any blasphemy against me, I think the following: if that man, and more often the woman, goes to a psychologist, the latter will probably advise them to hit a pillow. But as far as I know, that doesn’t help much. It’s much more effective to write profanity: it warms the heart, makes one feel like a “fighting type,” and seems to fulfill a civic duty. So, in this matter, I think I am benefiting people.
But I am also satisfied that my colleague Hripsime Jebejyan was consistent and sued that “type.” Because the short-term therapeutic effect does not compensate for the damage that such people do to society, clouding the atmosphere with their dirty vocabulary, their hatred, and intolerance. The court made a decision in favor of the journalist and obliged the haters to apologize. But experience shows that when such people are “on the side of the authorities,” they are not in a hurry to comply with the court’s request.
