Raffi Hovhannisian, “If the election is rigged, we will explicitly state our viewpoint in the European People’s Party (EPP)”

February 03,2012 16:38

In February, EPP will de jure confirm the membership of the Armenian parties. In this regard, Heritage Party leader, answering a question whether the Europeans notice controversies between them and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and how he imagined two opposite poles inside the same political institution, said at Post Scriptum Club today that it was really a complicated issue, “There are four applying parties in a small country like Armenia. If as opposed to all expectations, there is a free, fair and legitimate election in Armenia, the Heritage Party will consider normal cooperation with all parties inside EPP and in Armenia. However, if the upcoming election is rigged in any way, directly or indirectly, to a large or small extent, the Heritage Party cannot be with election riggers either in Yerevan or in Europe. If the election is rigged, we will explicitly state our viewpoint in EPP.”

Journalists also asked whether RPA was really ready to go for a free and fair election or it would do everything to be reproduced and cling on to power, to which Mr. Hovhannisian responded that it was noticeable from the attitude toward his letter addressed to the president that political will lacked, “We approach this election based on the clannish, partisan, getting-seats provincial mentality and not with the belief to realize the words expressed full-heartedly by high-ranking officials. I want to trust people, even those who have made the biggest mistakes toward me, my colleagues and my family.”
