Armenia is reportedly set to receive four L-39 aircraft from Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody.
“Aero Vodochody is offering Bulgaria eight new L-39 Skyfox trainer aircraft to replace its aging L-39ZA Albatros fleet, four of which underwent a general overhaul and partial modernization at Aero last year. According to Czech PM Babiš, Bulgaria is favorably disposed toward the offer.
For Bulgaria, this would be a logical step, as it would mean transitioning from the old L-39ZA to the new L-39NG. Furthermore, the Bulgarian Air Force has already taken delivery of eight new F-16C/D Block 70 fighter jets and ordered another eight, so it needs a modern jet trainer. Furthermore, the Skyfox offers the option of a C-UAS version, or the ability to retrofit a training aircraft to create a platform capable of cost-effectively shooting down UAVs, including jet-powered ones.
Aero Vodochody has already sold 40 L-39 Skyfox aircraft, most of which have already been delivered. Currently four L-39s are in production for Armenia, two for Angola (with an option for two more), and one for a customer in the U.S. Aero is also in advanced negotiations regarding orders for another 20 Skyfoxes for various customers. The current production rate is 12 aircraft per year, with plans to increase it to 18 aircraft per year,” 𝕻𝖗𝖆𝖎𝖘𝖊 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕾𝖙𝖊𝖕𝖍 reports.
