Today a signature gather was organized in Mashtots Park. More than 5000 citizens signed, demanding to dismantle all buildings being built in Mashtots Public Park. Hundreds of citizens and environmentalists were celebrating the birth of determined citizen in Mashtots Park beating the drums and chanting “the park is ours,” “dis-man-tle-ment.” A big environmental forum was organized in the park and the environmentalists were showing to citizens how Yerevan, Jermuk had been destroyed and the territory of Lake Yerevan had been turned into a garbage can.

The activists of the initiative were surprised at the fact that a set of Republican MPs and establishment representatives had been picking on them, saying that a politicized mass of people had gathered; they did PR etc., “Don’t pick on us as if we destabilize the situation in the country, play party games. We are concerned citizens. They say the park is a garbage can. However, a question arises why they have allowed turning the park into a garbage can,” the environmentalists asked the mayor. In environmentalist Meri Khachatryan’s words, the officials had been making controversial statements, “The mayor states that they compensate the owners of booths in Abovyan Street and architect Narek Sargsyan states that there is no owner. One thing is clear – that decision is illegal and we demand voiding the decision of putting up booths immediately.”

The environmentalists also noted that they had proved the most important thing that “1+1=11 and not 2, we can convince anyone that the park is ours.”
