If You Are Honest

April 21,2012 12:46

I am not afraid of  Serzh Sargsyan’s, I am not afraid of  Levon Ter-Petrossian’s rule. I don’t see anything awful, if Raffi Hovhannisyan, Gagik Tsarukyan or Vartan Oskanian become the President. They will certainly rule in different manners, but, being rational people, not having pathological inclinations, they will try to maintain the internal stability and consent. The only man, whose rule I fear, is Robert Kocharyan. I am not afraid for myself personally, but at least, two events took place during that president’s rule – October 27 and March 1 – which threw back our country’s progress for a few years twice. None of the above-mentioned figures would have allowed that. The first president can be honestly offended, if someone doesn’t think like him, the current president will try to convince that person that he is right. When the second president sees that someone doesn’t agree with him, he just instinctively grabs the pistol. Under conditions of the same regime, there is a difference in characters and the traits of Robert Kocharyan’s character can be dangerous for the country. If my respectable friends from the Armenian National Congress (ANC) contribute to that willingly or unwillingly, it seems to me they are making a mistake.

About the dialogue. “The opposition camp (i.e. the ANC – A.A.) commenced a dialogue after a fierce struggle, initiating such a thing that must be cherished, fostered, must become the political Bible of the opposition and the government, but people – even a newspaper, which was the main supporter of that dialogue – who thought that this dialogue was wrong, emerged again.” If “a newspaper” is Aravot, then I personally think that the dialogue was quite right. (Certainly, other opinions were published in our newspaper.) Moreover, I was for continuing the dialogue and not focusing on the issue of pit bull muzzles – meanwhile it would have been possible to wrestle 100% proportional representation, mandatory filming of polling stations and many other things, which would make the opposition’s work easier, from the government.

About the joint staff. Hats off to the ANC, the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), which were able to establish that staff, putting aside all their controversies. I, along with the first president, don’t understand why the Heritage Party doesn’t participate in the work of that institution. God grant, that staff carries out its mission and stops election fraud, at least, to some extent. My objections refer not to the staff, but to the relations between the ANC and the PAP. It cannot be that a political force that has 10 ministers is a “robber” and the one that has 3 ministers is a union of saints.

It cannot be that two oligarchs are stupid and illiterate and one is of Harvard level. Why no oppositionist ventured to nominate himself against Gagik Tsarukyan for majoritarian representation, to invite him to debate etc.? If you really struggle against the system, then struggle fully, not partially. If you play games, it is a different matter.
