“I Don’t Give a Damn About the Comments,” Hrant Bagratyan Says

September 03,2012 16:01

Hrant Bagratyan, a former Prime Minister, expressed an opinion during a meeting with his supporters that the decision to break off diplomatic relations with Hungary was the stupidest step, because breaking off relations at that moment would not allow finding out completely what had happened, “He took a step in their interest, it was a short-sighted step, perhaps puerile or maybe deliberate.” In this regard, readers of www.aravot.am made a comment that “Mr. Hrant Bagratyan, the decision of S. Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Armenia, to break off diplomatic relations with Hungary is a real president’s step, which anyone should have taken. If, God forbid, one of your family members or your child was murdered, to which Hungary is an accomplice, what would you do, would you preserve diplomatic relations? The President of the Republic of Armenia took that step as the head of the family and have no doubt that there will be discharges of those who should have been consistent in that issue, should have informed the President of the Republic of Armenia about those imminent intentions, therefore, watch your words, be polite and don’t make us lose our patience so that we also offend you – or what you say, he shouldn’t have broken off diplomatic relations to grab Hungary by the throat etc., perhaps, not everything is clear for you or you have lost all of your senses. At the same time, we don’t doubt your demagogy that you will say that those who have written this are pro-government people; we can provide you with our data, if you wish. If the president was wrong we wouldn’t defend him, therefore….” This comment was signed By a Group of  Ordinary Villagers.

When we communicated our reader’s opinion to Mr. Bagratyan, he really said that it had been written by representatives of the government, “Perhaps, Eduard Nalbandyan wrote it.” In his words, “I don’t give a damn about the comments. I mean we should have engaged in negotiations, shouldn’t have rushed, should have waited for another one or two days and should have engaged in negotiations. The person who made that comment didn’t understand, he thinks that I am absolutely against such steps. However, the history has shown that one should make a stricter move from a more favorable position. It was a rush.”

According to Mr. Bagratyan, that is only about this stage and in the future, one could come back to such a move.
