After the authoritarian regime cunningly reminded first President of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian that he was 68 years old, and the latter decided not to announce his candidacy for the presidential election, no politician – if he really thinks of himself as the current regime’s opponent – should have ventured to announce his candidacy. Generally, all social and political forces should have ceased their activities, stating that all that was not possible under an authoritarian regime, had turned into an absolute farce and
played into the government’s hands. Certainly, after that historic refusal to announce his candidacy, one could allow people with certain reservations to go to work, and spouses to take some steps to have offspring. However, with regard to the social, civic activity, there is no doubt here; every step that any politician ventures to take without the Armenian National Congress (ANC) central office’s permission aims at prolonging the tyranny. Moreover, the first president took that step in order to purge the political stage once again, dividing it into those who are for a bourgeois democratic revolution and, therefore, don’t announce their candidacies and don’t endorse anyone and those who serve the regime announcing their candidacies and endorsing others.
Thus, it becomes clear now that Levon Ter-Petrossian’s refusal to announce his candidacy is a continuation of the secret strategy, which only 3-4 people expertly know about. The other ordinary mortals whom they don’t deem necessary to inform about that super-secret strategy don’t deserve to know it and will learn about it after it yields results. That strategy started from the political analysis, continued through secret negotiations, as a result of which the gang rule received a mortal blow. The apogee of that strategy is the first president’s not participating in the election campaign, which caused panic in the regime and among its secret servants. That is the very reason why the regime quickly nominates its candidates for president, which aim at one thing – to legitimize the upcoming election.
So today the duty of every honest citizen is to avoid participating in the election campaign in any way, stay at home and criticize all candidates for president. That’s the only way to create the free, independent and democratic Armenia we all dream of.
