Is a case being fabricated in the police against activists?

January 20,2014 16:51

The activists conducting car procession in the Republic Square, yesterday, continue receiving calls from the police for clarifying information regarding their cars. According to Hayk Avetisyan, a car procession participant, the police officers collect information through visits or calls based on unclear and illogical arguments: “For example, as if a car has hit somebody on that day and they were investigating the case.

And it turned out that the accident was related to the participants of the action. They are doing it to cause discomfort to action participants”, said the activist. He did not exclude that the fact that to punish the activists the police might try to fabricate a case against one of them to calm down the rest, “No illegal action has been performed. The head of the traffic police stated that traffic rules were not violated during the action. Now, I would recommend only one thing to the car procession participants: let them record the police representatives calling them, or videotape the police officer visiting their house and provide no other information. Demand documents and justifications of their questions”. Then he said that probably the police officers became active for intimidating prior to the large rally planned for tomorrow. He said that they were a team and as a team will continue fighting for their rights and against the police actions. To remind that yesterday Ashot Aharonyan, Head of the Police Information Department, in the conversation with us, did not explain the reason for the police initiative of recording the activists’ license plates telling that police officers were doing their job. The police has not clarified the reasons for calling and visiting the activists and collecting information, yet.
