This was told to us by the film director, producer Armen Gasparyan, who is going to shoot a file titled the “Keys” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. “Now, negotiations are underway with an Armenian private studio, as well as French, Dutch and Russian investors to shoot the film, however, one of the factors restraining us is that Armenia, here too, has not yet decided to participate in filming on a state level. Whereas the film was supposed to be ready by April 24, 2015,” said the film director. Meanwhile, according to Armen Gasparyan, Turks are getting ready for a big film projects about genocide, one of which is already ready and is called “120”. “I can say that Armenia seems is unable to participate in the 100th anniversary of genocide with its own film. Armenia has not yet been oriented, whereas, the Turks already have a movie. If you look at the website, the Turkish film is called “120”, it is not accidental that they have chosen this topic, 120 is the number of Turkish children who took ammunition to Turkish soldiers in Sarighamish in cold and frost weather. How the genocide started? By official and non-official point of view, it started with defeat of Turkish army in Sarighamish. Turkey has already demonstrated its interpretation about genocide. Now the day has come, and there is an official view that Armenia is unable to present with its film. Something may be shot, the Moscow cinema may show it a couple of weeks, and that’s it. Ours is a little different story, our guarantee is the European rental. This is an international film project, and the international film process has its own laws, Armenia is beyond these laws, but as far as genocide is a sacred topic for all of us, one way or another, Armenia has no right to miss participating.” As informed by Armen Gasparyan, he will present as a screenwriter of the film, the matter of film director will be discussed. Either he or a famous European will present as a film director. And as to why the film is called “Keys”, Armen Gasparyan explained as follows, “It is a true story about a Turkish family, which kept the key to an Armenian house for 4 generations, that is, he has kept the keys since 1915 up to now hoping that the Armenians will return to their country. By the scenario, the grandchild of girl who survived the genocide is returning from France and meeting with the Turkish family. The whole film is about their memories, their family, and their homes.” Since there are fears that problems might occur when shooting the film in Turkey, following the suggestion of the French side, the film will be shot in Bulgaria or Bosnia-Herzegovina.
