Trying to understand everyone

November 04,2014 12:39

I am for establishing normal relations with Turkey, but what is happening this year, has nothing to do with it. The Turkish leadership with Asian slyness is doing imitations allegedly there are some trends of closing in with us to weaken the propaganda effect of the Genocide Centennial. But April 24of the next year will pass, while Turkey will remain to be our neighbor, a neighbor, whom we do not understand well and do not know well, because everything is refracted by the subject of Genocide. To love the country that has organized the Armenian Genocide and has not accepted its guilt, we cannot do it. To understand, we are obligated.

I am for establishing normal relations with Azerbaijan, but the country’s leadership claims that it will happen only if we give Artsakh to them. But, we, naturally, are not going to do it. Even if we wanted to, we could not do it, because the Karabakh people own their de facto independent state. But Azerbaijan will remain to be our neighbor, and without forgetting a single moment about the unfinished war, we should try to communicate with them and to understand them. When the communication is limited to only the discussion of the Karabakh conflict, it is a deadlock, because our positions are strongly contrary, however, there are many other topics to understand each other.

I am utterly for developing relations with Russia. But, not within the stillborn Eurasian project. When events on the Russian language and culture are held in Armenia, some, to put it mildly, not so smart people are bringing some “patriotic” arguments against it. It is a short-sighted approach. Any language knowledge and research should be encouraged.

I consider my being fluent in Russian as my advantage to those who do not know it. (Exactly the same advantages have those who are fluent in English than I do).

At first glance, it seems that there are no problems with the relations with Russia. But it is only at first glance. The developments in the last one year, including the visits of Russian officials, experts, political scientists and journalists to our country and their arrogant and defaming statements about Armenia and Armenians introduced some tension. Anyway, Russia will remain our friendly country whom we are obligated to understand not only for its puffed official-experts, but also for its powerful culture and evidently positive manifestations of Russian people’s character.

… Einstein used to say, You can’t solve a problem on the same level that it was created. That’s true not only in physics, but also in all spheres, including politics. Both, foreign and domestic.
