According to information reported by Aravot.am, yesterday, the cargo place arriving from Libya was not allowed to land at “Zvartnots” airport, because of the fear of Ebola, the latter landed at “Shirak” airport in Gyumri. Here, the crew was exposed to medical examination. We tried to verify this information from the Executive Director of “Shirak” airport Seyran Chukhajyan.

To our question of why the aircraft arriving from Libya landed in Gyumri, and whether it was not allowed to land in Yerevan, he said, “It was their wish to land in Gyumri.” And in response to our question of what business they had in Gyumri and what they were transporting to Gyumri that they expressed a desire to land right in this city, Mr. Chukhajyan informed that the plane was empty, and according to the contract, they can land at the Gyumri airport as well. And as to why they were exposed to medical examination, we talked about this subject to Vahe Andreyan, Head of the sanitary control point at “Shirak” Airport. He said that the 7-member crew was exposed to medical examination right in the plane, as they had arrived from Africa. Indeed, according to him, Ebola is not spread in Libya, in any case, they were examined for being on the safe side. “It was necessary to be examined properly,” said the chief inspector, who was leading the examination conducted by Armine Andreyan, epidemiologist of Shirak regional Experimental Center and an employee of the sanitary border control point of the airport.

“7 people were examined, thought there were no doubts,” conveyed Vahe Andreyan. However, he said that the latter are under the control and their temperatures are taken in one of the polyclinics. We asked if there are no suspects of Ebola, why their temperature is taken and be under control. “We are conducted our function, we have recorded their names and examined, the rest is up to the regional center, although if they had listened to me, it was not necessary,” said our interlocutor. He also informed that the crew of the cargo plane is going to stay in Gyumri for a few days, according to his information, they are going to take a cargo from Armenia and they are going to wait for a few days until their order is done.

Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Head of Shirak marz Health Department, said that he is aware of all of this, he knows that the crew arrived from Libya was examined, and he knows that nothing was detected. However, according to him, they keep taking their temperature and examining to completely dispel the doubts. Karine Tairyan, Head of Shirak province Health Department, told that they are under control of Ministry of Health Disease Control and Prevention National Center, but she is also being informed from the sanitary units. She is aware that the crew is in the “Vanatur” hotel, to the point, the hotel is owned by Seyran Chukhajyan, Executive Director of “Shirak” airport, and is under control, temperatures are constantly taken.

We tried to find out what the cargo aircraft was shipping to Armenia, or what it is going to take from our country. We were advised by “Zvartnots” international airport to clarify these issues from the airline, as it is a registered company in Armenia, and they had expressed a desire and received a permit to land in Gyumri. And as to which airline he was talking about, they did not tell us. We found out that he was talking about “Veteran Avia” company, that 3 of the crewmembers are from the Russian Federation, one – from Ukraine, and the rest from Estonia. They are going to stay in Armenia for a few days, as they are expected to get instructions from their leadership. And the point that they were disallowed to land in the capital, it is a fact, their landing in Gyumri was out of the schedule. Read more about this in a little while.
