Former US Ambassador to Armenia: I would not blame Armenia if Nagorno Karabakh’s participation were put as a precondition to resume the peace talks

December 10,2016 21:10

Armenia can demand Nagorno Karabakh’s participation in the talks as a precondition to return to the negotiation table regarding the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Former US Ambassador to Armenia Jon Evans made such a statement during event of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues. The Voce of Armenia reports about this.

“For Instance I would not blame Armenia if Nagorno Karabakh’s participation in the negotiations were put as a precondition to resume the peace talks of the NKR conflict,” he said.

The source has noted that the official Baku does not only recognize Nagorno Karabakh, but also refuses to hold talks with the representative of Karabakh claiming that this conflict is between Armenia and Azerbaijan. However as Evans noted, NKR is ready to run a policy by its own.

Co-Chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues Frank Pallone has also talked about the peaceful settlement of the NKR conflict and the role of the US during the interview with the Voice of Armenia. In his words the Congressmen intend to discuss these issues with the high ranking officials of the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

“We plan to meet with the officials of Trump’s administration to make sure that they will pay a special attention to the US Co-Chairmanship in the Minsk Group and the peaceful settlement of the NKR conflict, which will keep the majority of the Armenian population in Artsakh,” Pallone said.

Pallone underscored that the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues pursues bipartism policy and will continue operating effectively regardless of the fact who the majority of the congress supports: Democrats or Republicans.
