Iran urges EU to speed up efforts for saving nuclear deal – IRNA

August 20,2018 17:02

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman urged European countries Monday to speed up their efforts in preparing an economic package for preserving the nuclear deal following the US withdrawal. IRNA reports.

‘We insist European countries to make efforts more seriously and swiftly,’ Bahram Qassemi said in a weekly press conference with a reference to the promises the European signatories to Iran Deal have made on keeping the agreement alive.

The initiative was proposed in response to the US withdrawal in May from the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) calling it the worst deal ever Washington has entered.

Qassemi said, position of the European Union is clear, and the economic cooperation between Iran and the EU as well as the two other parties of the deal have been enhanced in the form of an economic package.

Europe has vowed it would keep its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Iran’s market.

The US president re-imposed sanctions on Iran after pulling out of the deal that was signed in 2015 between the world major powers—US, UK, France, Russia, China plus Germany— and Iran.
