The Republican Party of Armenia congratulates the newly-elected mayor of Yerevan and the new members of city council. We hope that the new mayor and the new city council members will carry out all the promises they made during the campaigns. Ensuring that they fully carry out their promises will be all of society’s mission.
The Republican Party did not participate in the Yerevan City Council elections to prevent extreme polarization within society. Sadly, the “My Step” alliance and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan built their campaign upon dividing society into “blacks and whites.” That led to diverting and perverting the natural voting agenda, and turned voting into the dangerous and retrospective “against” or “for” approach. It’s obvious that the majority of balanced citizens of the capital city did not support that approach.
Nonetheless, the time has come for serious political agreements and, more importantly, effective work. Society expects serious actions to deal with the serious challenges facing our country and people.
