Deputy of the “Tsarukyan” alliance Naira Zohrabyan thinks that the RPA showed “slight cynicism” in not ensuring its deputies’ presence at the vote. “There was no political sentiment. They accepted that the new Electoral Code is more progressive and more proper, and it creates proper voting relationships. But they did everything in order to reject it,” Naira Zohrabyan told Aravot.am.
Regarding the members of Prosperous Armenia who were not present- Gagik Tsarukyan, Napoleon Azizyan, Vardan Ghukasyan, and Hrant Madatyan- Naira Zohrabyan said that Gagik Tsarukyan perhaps was not in parliament at first, but he arrived very quickly and was not even wearing the proper clothes. He was in athletic wear. He was prepared to enter the hall and participate in the vote. “But we told him that there’s no need because it wasn’t an issue of there not being one voice. Regarding the other three absentees, we will do our best to make sure that they are present next time,” said Zohrabyan, assuring that the government will make use of its rights and will call for another session of parliament for the Electoral Code.
When asked why they didn’t ensure all of their deputies’ presence this time, Naira Zohrabyan said that Hrant Madatyan is not in the country, but Napoleon Azizyan and Vardan Ghukasyan simply had left the building. They were prepared to return at any moment to vote.
Regarding how the RPA will carry itself next time, Zohrabyan replied that only time will tell.
