The parliament of Artsakh gathered for a new session.
The first question that was discussed during the session was to appoint a new judge for the Court of Appeals. The sole candidate nominated for the position was First Instance Court Judge Rafayel Jhangiryan. He was appointed judge during a secret vote, with 29 votes in favor and 2 against.
The election of the new Human Rights Defender of Artsakh also took place during the session. One candidate was nominated for the position- the head of the department of the Human Rights Defender, Artak Beglaryan, who was nominated by the “Hayrenik” faction.
He was elected unanimously in a secret vote.
Artak Beglaryan, during his speech, said that as the Human Rights Defender, he considers four fundamental directions to be the most important: internal, Armenian, international, and Azerbaijani.
“During my time in office as the Human Rights Defender, I will do my best to work effectively towards internal issues. Many internal issues will be at the center of my attention,” Beglaryan said.
Former Ombudsman Ruben Melikyan resigned on September 26th.
