‘It seems like this is news to you’: Minister of Foreign Affairs on Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian propaganda

May 27,2020 20:30

“Azerbaijan has started to become active in the international media by making anti-Armenian statements. One example is when they discouraged German citizens from visiting Artsakh; otherwise, they would be prosecuted. I cannot remember when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of any of our allied nations had such an article published on its site,” Bright Armenia deputy Taron Simonyan said during a questions and answers session of government.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, responded, “I am pleased that you are interested in this, but it seems like this is news to you. It is not that the number of those articles increased, but there always has been a lot and it will continue to remain so because the situation calls for it.”

According to the minister, “We deal with this every day and there is no need to be surprised. This did not just begin and it will not end tomorrow. Perhaps you have not seen the article that was in opposition to the article you mentioned. It was written by a US citizen who is a refugee in Azerbaijan. We know Germany’s position on the Artsakh issue and we do not need to judge this issue based on a travel ban. Competition in propaganda is continuous.”
