“The Artsakh Republic rejects any process of handing over Artsakh to Azerbaijan”: Advisor to the President of Artsakh

April 15,2022 20:15

“The Artsakh Republic rejects any process of handing over Artsakh to Azerbaijan. For the 150,000 people in the Artsakh Republic, any status of being part of Azerbaijan is incomprehensible. Our opportunity for relations with Azerbaijan can only be in the context of the relationship,” Nelly Baghdasaryan, Advisor to the President on International Relations, told Aravot.am, referring to the statements made by the Armenian leadership in the Armenian parliament on the transfer of Artsakh to Azerbaijan.

“It is clear that Azerbaijan will use the geopolitical situation due to the Ukrainian crisis to make new concessions, so it is necessary to use all pan-Armenian resources to not give in to those pressures. Constructiveness must never turn into defeatism.

We have a registered status quo, a Russian peacekeeping mission, in the conditions of which the de facto independent status of the Artsakh Republic exists. Processes beyond that are unacceptable. The international community, which proposes to “lower the bar,” is well aware of the causes and problems of the conflict. The same international community registered the process of recognition of the Artsakh Republic until 2021. A rhetorical question arises: “What has changed?”” she said, adding that the common position and demand from the international community has not changed in the political agenda of the Artsakh Republic. That is, to respect and recognize the right of the people of the Artsakh Republic to self-determination.
