Edvard MIlitonyan, the President of the Writers’ Union of Armenian told Aravot.am that due to the closure of the Berdzor Corridor by Azerbaijan, the members, pen pals and close friends of the Writers’ Union of Armenia could not travel to Artsakh to participate in the last farewell ceremony of the President of the Writers’ Union of Artsakh, famous poet Vardan Hakobyan. The website of the Writers’ Union of Armenia also mentions that the current situation does not allow them to attend Vardan Hakobyan’s funeral, so the writers living in Armenia will say goodbye to him remotely at the Writers’ Union.
“Unfortunately, not many of us play such a big role and are modest in our way and manner. The Writers’ Union of Armenia organized a funeral ceremony in Yerevan yesterday evening, at the same time as the funeral ceremony of the famous poet was held in Stepanakert. Writers have gathered today and will say goodbye to Vardan Hakobyan,” said Edvard MIlitonyan.
He mentioned that the loss of Vardan Hakobyan is hefty for him. “He was a human figure, especially for me; we were friends for over forty years. He had a strong will, experimented with different literary forms, and published poetry books in a more traditional style since his youth. There was a fascinating period in the nineties, already during the Artsakh movement and after that. Life forced him to publish works with more modern, realistic images, reactions, and thoughts. If Vardan Hakobyan used to create mainly in classical style, later he gave freedom to his inner volcanoes with the possibilities of free poetry.
Edward Militonyan emphasizes. “Everyone knows what conditions Artsakh has been in for thirty years, what victims we had, and Vardan carried all that in his heart. Not every field will have such a leader as a creator and person.”
