The members of the RA NA delegation greatly highlighted the role of Romania in the deployment of the EU civil observation group

The delegation led by the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan is in Bucharest at the invitation of the Chairperson of the Committee for Foreign Policy of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania Rozália-Ibolya Biró.

The delegation also includes the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan and the member of Armenia-Romania Friendship Group Arsen Torosyan.

Within the framework of the visit, the members of the delegation met with the Secretary of State for Global Affairs and Diplomatic Strategies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia in 2011-2015 Traian Laurentiu Hristea on May 29.

During the meeting, Sargis Khandanyan touched upon the security challenges of the region, the aggressive policy implemented by Azerbaijan against Armenia, and the occupation of the sovereign territories of Armenia by the latter. The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations spoke about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the humanitarian crisis caused by the latter.

Reference was also made to the developments of the Peace Treaty and the settlement of Armenia-Turkey relations.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan underlined the importance of the judgments of international courts, the UN International Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights, stressing that their non-implementation will lead to a total failure of the international legal system. Vladimir Vardanyan asked for support in imposing pressure on Azerbaijan to implement the judgments, stressing that otherwise Nagorno-Karabakh will be subjected to ethnic cleansing.

Reference was also made to the role of the Armenian community in Romania. Traian Laurentiu Hristea underscored the key role of the latter in the Romanian society. He noted that October 12 is declared the day of the Armenian language, Armenian alphabet and culture in Romania.

Both sides emphasized the use of Eastern Partnership toolkits, the opportunities for Armenia to join international energy projects, the use and development of the existing potential for cooperation in economic, educational and cultural spheres.
