Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that the UAE is one of Armenia’s important partners in the region

On September 7, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Abu Dhabi on an official visit, met with Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

During the meeting, the interlocutors commended that over the 25-year diplomatic relations between the two countries, a strong and dynamically developing cooperation has been formed, based on the traditionally warm ties of the two friendly peoples. Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that the UAE is one of Armenia’s important partners in the region, expressing readiness to continue mutually beneficial dialogue in various fields through joint efforts.

Touching upon the deepening of the bilateral political dialogue and ensuring stable progress of cooperation, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and UAE emphasized the implementation of high-level mutual visits and conducting periodic consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.

In the context of activating trade and economic relations between the two countries and the implementation of various investment programs, the importance of the effective work of the Armenian-Emirati Intergovernmental Commission was highlighted. The Ministers also emphasized that about 30 weekly direct flights between the two countries significantly contribute to the activation of bilateral business ties, tourism, cultural and decentralized cooperation. In this regard, it was noted with satisfaction that Yerevan will host the Armenian-Emirati Business Forum in the coming days. The areas of high technology, digitalization, cybersecurity and innovation were also indicated as promising directions for cooperation. The inclusion of the new fields of interest on the bilateral agenda was also discussed.

The Heads of the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and United Arab Emirates also exchanged views on issues of regional and international importance.

Ararat Mirzoyan presented to his counterpart the security situation in the South Caucasus and the vision of the Armenian side for achieving peace and stability in the region.

Touching upon Azerbaijan’s already 9-months-long illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor, the Armenian Foreign Minister emphasized that 120,000 people of Nagorno-Karabakh face severe humanitarian challenges that are incompatible with decent life, and may have irreversible consequences. Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the need for Azerbaijan to implement two Orders of the International Court of Justice on this issue.
