In a briefing with journalists at the Assembly of the Nation, MP Gagik Melkonyan of the “Civil Contract” faction answered the question: Prime Minister Pashinyan had several phone calls with many countries regarding the border tension, but he did not talk to our strategic ally, Putin, what is the reason?
“The reason is that there has already been an escalation against our country 2-3 times; we have appealed, but neither the CSTO nor our allied state has responded. They said they were borderline fights. There was no point in calling them; it’s pointless.”
To the question: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says there was an agreement to deploy forces from the CSTO, and the Armenians refused at the last moment. Did something like that happen? Gagik Melkonyan answered.
“Lavrov is saying everything. We do not take what he said as a basis for our country. He constantly wants to destroy our country.” Melkonyan confirmed the reaction of the journalist- Lavrov? “Yes, Lavrov. Have you seen his plans to be pro-Armenian, all his plans?” Gagik Melkonyan replied to the observation that the programs of the Armenian side should be pro-Armenian, not Russia’s.

“Russia has always decided for us, thought for us, and told us where we should go with whom we should make friends,” Melkonyan answered the question: Are the plans of the West pro-Armenian? “We should put our hope on ourselves, on our people. But we also have to find friends. Until now, we have always put our trust in Russia. Russia had set such conditions that it would be Russia or Turkey; this is how it was put before us. We have always decided on the Russian Federation and devoted ourselves to the Russian Federation until the end, but finally, there are other countries as well. We should make friends with other countries as well.”
According to the MP, we are now making friends with India, European countries, Iran, and the USA. “What have we done to Russia that we say we want to make friendship with France and India? Why are they taking it so hard? Let them think about their country, that they exercise with whoever they want and make friends with whoever they want. Have we ever interfered in their affairs?”
According to the deputy of the ruling faction, Russia’s strategic ally is Azerbaijan, not Armenia. “They entered our territory up to 7 km in Jermuk, and they don’t respond; what hope should we put on the CSTO,” complained Melkonyan.
