Armenia, Yerevan (16 November, 2023) – On November 15, the Repatriation and Integration Center of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs held the final meeting of the free Armenian language courses for repatriates in 2023. This year, the Center has organized Armenian language courses in four stages, with approximately 250 repatriates from 30 countries participating.

The event was attended by the participants of the courses, as well as the representatives of the Center’s partner organizations.

Hovhannes Aleksanyan, who is the responsible for repatriation issues at the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, and Gevorg Hakobyan, the acting chairman of the State Language Committee, delivered welcome speeches to the attendees.

Hakob Makdis, the representative of the “Big Mind” organization, responsible for the educational aspect of the courses, presented a summary of the language course results.

Individuals from various age groups have participated in the courses throughout the year. In October of this year, Armine Khanyan’s family moved from Israel to Armenia, and her two school-aged children also attended the Center’s free Armenian language courses.

“We are grateful for this opportunity because the Armenian language courses have helped my children integrate psychologically into Armenian life and forget the negative feelings they experienced during the recent events in Israel. As an Armenian family, we speak Armenian at home. However, here they gain a deeper understanding of the language,” Armine Khanyan noted.

Dmitry Myakushko, one of the course participants, moved from Russia to Armenia a year ago and began attending Armenian language courses.

“I am a doctor and currently working in Yerevan. I am learning Armenian to enhance communication with my patients. My wife is Armenian, and we have two children who will soon start learning Armenian,” noted Dmitry Myakushko.

The specialists at the Center also offered consultations on various issues related to repatriation during the event.
