The other day, the anthem of Yerevan was played in our philharmonic hall, the wonderful work of composer Edgar Hovhannisyan with the words of Paruyr Sevak. The performance was significant in that it was attended by the world-famous tenor Plácido Domingo, who, by the way, has a particularly warm regard for Armenia, Armenians and, in particular, Armenian opera artists.
Since Tigran Avinyan, the mayor of Yerevan, was watching the performance with his hand on his heart, it must be assumed that he also perceives this work as the anthem of the capital and, unlike the RA anthem, does not see the need to change it.
But in Paruyr Sevak’s poetry, there are phrases that clearly contradict the “ideology” of the Civic contract Party: “You are our new Dvin, our new Ani”, “Your Masis father.” Such place names are mentioned here, which have nothing to do with the real Armenia of 29 thousand 743 square kilometers, and this mention can be perceived as claims to the territory of another state. And in general, Avinyan, imitating his “boss”, can question that Yerevan is 2800 years old, deny that “historical myth” and accept as a starting point that the real capital of Armenia was founded in 2018, when the people finally understood that the state is the motherland, and the motherland is the state.

In general, the current government does not promote “real” (Pashinyan’s), not “Soviet-Armenian” patriotism well. There are no musical, literary works, paintings that would glorify the 29 thousand 743 square kilometers. Meanwhile, in the Soviet period, in addition to the song “Erebuni-Yerevan”, hundreds of other talented works were created, where the “main characters” are the names and people who had nothing to do with the mentioned square kilometers. I suppose that, in particular, those works created the “generation of 1988”.
But since 1988 was also, according to pro-government propaganda, wrong and provoked by the secretive KGB, it is worth reviewing all those cases.
