Statement on Fake Accounts and Information Interference
The Union of Informed Citizens NGO, remaining committed to its mission of protecting elections in Armenia from foreign interference, has identified a number of fake accounts in the Armenian social media space. These accounts have been instrumentalized for spreading disinformation and hate speech in Armenia’s information space through foreign interference. They have also been circulating manipulative content regarding the upcoming elections in June aiming to discredit electoral processes in the country.
A list of more than 100 such accounts and channels, most of which exhibit inauthentic behavior on social media, has been submitted to the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, along with a proposal to restrict their activity on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
The list does not include pages belonging to political figures or parties that have declared their intention to participate in the elections.

The Senators expressed their concerns to the companies and the recognition by the United States of the grave threat posed by foreign actors’ disinformation efforts to Armenian democracy.
