No One Can Divide Us: the “We Are” Civil Initiative

May 21,2026 14:23

The ongoing pre-election campaign in Armenia has exposed deeply alarming, long-standing systemic issues that extend far beyond a mere deficiency in political culture. It has laid bare a profound crisis of ethics, mutual respect, and responsible public discourse.

The systemic employment of hate speech, the deluge of insults, aggressive rhetoric, explicit threats, and the total absence of basic tact and respect for political opponents—as well as for the dignity of public dialogue—are fundamentally incompatible with the high office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, our national values, and the dignity of the Armenian people.

It is entirely unacceptable, and must be unequivocally condemned, when an election campaign is weaponized as a platform for disseminating hatred and humiliation. It is intolerable when disrespectful, frequently vulgar, and contemptuous language is directed against our own citizens and the people of Artsakh—particularly from the highest echelons of power. It is evident that the primary objective of this rhetoric is to cultivate an atmosphere of fear and to deepen the fault lines that have been artificially manufactured by certain circles for years.

The authorities seek to intimidate the populace and fracture society by pitting different groups against one another, thereby transforming domestic polarization into a political instrument.

This strategy will not succeed.

We are one people. Neither arbitrary arrests, nor the overt language of hostility, nor systematic insults can divide us.

We share one common Homeland, one history, and a collective responsibility before future generations. We are the rightful masters of this country, and for us, the Armenian national agenda, national dignity, and state interests remain absolute priorities.

The “We Are” civil initiative reaffirms that it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to reject manipulation and to stand resolutely against the destructive forces that threaten our Homeland, our unity, and our national dignity.
