On June 26, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received young members of the Armenian Diaspora participating in the Armenian General Benevolent Union’s (AGBU) Yerevan-based Global Leadership and Discover Armenia programs. The group was accompanied by Mr. Vazgen Yakoubian, President of AGBU Armenia and a member of the AGBU Central Board.
During the meeting, Mr. Yakoubian briefed His Holiness on the ongoing programs, emphasizing their importance in strengthening the national identity of young Diaspora Armenians and deepening their ties with both the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and their Homeland.
Offering his paternal blessing and guidance to the young participants, the Catholicos of All Armenians noted with appreciation that, through its global network, AGBU brings Armenians together across the world and, in fulfillment of its mission to preserve Armenian national identity, carries out a wide range of educational, cultural, and youth programs in close cooperation with the Armenian Church.
His Holiness highly commended AGBU’s annual educational and homeland-discovery initiatives, through which young Diaspora Armenians are given the opportunity to come to know and discover their Homeland—its history, spiritual and cultural heritage, as well as the realities of life in Armenia. In this regard, His Holiness emphasized that knowing one’s Homeland is an essential foundation for preserving national identity and strengthening both love for the Homeland and a sense of responsibility toward it.
