Political analyst Aghasy Yenokyan is sure.
“If the parity balance in economic, military, demographic and international political spheres is kept, it will mean that the time works in favor of us”,-RPA member, NA parliamentarian Armen Ashotyan expressed his satisfaction on the current stage of NK conflict who was conducting a debate with Aghasy Yenokyan in “Hayeli” club. In Mr. Ashotyan’s opinion: “According to international law NK conflict has no connection with territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, it only connects with the people’s right of self determination”. Aghasy Yenokyan partly agreed with him: “It is juridically true but who is stronger is more listenable in international relations. So it is not right to affirm that the time works in for of us because our power in the region, contrary to Azerbaijan, has weakened. There is a democratic regression. 180 000 people were living in NKR in 1988,and only 20% was Azeri, nowadays 50-60 000 people live there”.
In RPA deputy’s opinion nowadays the NK population is 100 000 plus 20 000 militaries. In answer to this Aghasy Yenokyan reminded the conclusion of International Crisis Group, according to which the NK is the most militarized territory; each sixth person is a military, while in other countries the army consists of 1-2% of the whole population. In the politician’s opinion, these figures are dangerous since Azerbaijan takes any opportunity to speak about terrorist forces, trafficking and other things, and this mean when the superpowers worry about the NK conflict, they can solve it by force, without taking into consideration the opinions of two parties.
Mr. Ashotyan was sure that Baku-Jeihan oil pipeline and Baku-Erzrum gas pipeline though their financial incomes, have seriously limited Azerbaijan’s independence in carrying out foreign policy. “If Aliev believes in time that he will be able to settle the NK conflict in military way, the big players of international business won’t allow threatening their expected interests and expenses.” Aghasy Yenokyan noticed that loosing a certain independence in the foreign policy, Azerbaijan becomes richer instead but Armenia has also reached a deadlock becoming Russia’s outpost. He also reminded: “We lost a serious factor in NK conflict settlement, NK stopped negotiating.” Armen Ashotyan’s opinion was quite different, he assured that that “ It was our tactical trick”. In his opinion “The issue of NK participation in the negotiations and the NK recognition are powerful diplomatic tricks with the help of which we are able to oppose to the Azerbaijani propaganda.”
Yenokyan surprised: “Do you mean that we gave that instrument to them to consider it the sphere of serious struggle?” The answer was as follows: “We used that trick in time, achieve a certain success in international negotiating formats but when our neighbors didn’t appreciate our good will in the political arena…. Yes, recognition of NK independence and NK participation in the negotiations are those factors which are still actual.”
It was also spoken about the NK future. “We reached to a deadlock in the last stage. We should turn to people, to their needs, refuse of struggle for various symbols. Let’s leave the issue of NK status to the future, let’s solve more important issues”,- Aghasy Yenokyan. Armen Ashotyna was sure that the problem of status “has been solved, it should be adopted by the international community. The problem of the status is for international community, but is not a problem for us any more.”
