The Armenian National Congress (ANC) headquarters in a cobbler’s booth

November 29,2011 12:38

The ANC Noyemberyan headquarters are in the former consumer services center of the town of Noyemberyan. It is a cobbler’s booth at the same time. Norik Sahakyan, an ANC activist from Noyemberyan, mends citizens’ shoes in the local headquarters of the opposition party, no matter what political views they have. The Congress rents the site for 30 thousand AMD per month. ANC is ready to pay 50 thousand AMD for a bigger place, but the people who have property in the town don’t lease any place to ANC fearing to have problems with the authorities. At the previous election Levon Ter-Petrossian won twice as many votes in Hoktemberyan as Serzh Sargsyan did. However, the reason for that is not the Noyemberyan residents’ big liking for Ter-Petrossian, but the border town residents’ displeasure with their own life.
