According to Larisa Alaverdyan, the Heritage Party parliamentary group secretary and the first Human Rights Defender of Armenia, they create a counterbalance to the gay parade in Azerbaijan by the explosion of the DIY Club in Yerevan a few weeks ago, “All this is done to show that there is negative attitude toward homosexuals not only in Azerbaijan, but also in Armenia. They are the forces, international organizations, which propagandize homosexuality. They want to equalize Azerbaijani and Iranian fundamentalists with Armenians – they want to show that there is the same thing in Armenia and it is not democratic by their standards, it doesn’t differ from Azerbaijan in any way.”
