Tigran Ter-Petrosyan Denies That He Has an Intention to Leave the Congress, but He Confirms That the Erebuni Headquarters of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Has Been Closed

July 19,2012 23:12

After Davit Shahnazaryan withdrew from the ANC, there are speculations that Tigran Ter-Petrosyan has also withdrawn from the ANC, has closed their office in Erebuni and is in Dubai. Let us remind that first President of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian’s nephew, Tigran Ter-Petrosyan, was nominated by the ANC for the parliamentary election in no. 12 electoral district, where Lyova Khachatryan from the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) was declared the winner.

In regard to this, Lyudmila Sargsyan, an ANC MP, assured during a conversation with us that the Erebuni office couldn’t be closed, “There is no reason to close. It is ruled out, you know whose office it is, it is Tigran Ter-Petrosyan’s office.” As for his withdrawing from the Congress, Ms. Sargsyan said, “No, it is ruled out. I met with Tigran Ter-Petrosyan yesterday, the whole Congress was in one place, it is ruled out. There is really no such thing. There are just so many speculations about the Congress that every minor thing is regarded as something big, ceasing the membership in the Congress.” We asked to clarify whether there had been, nonetheless, any problem with Tigran, Lyudmila Sargsyan assured that there hadn’t, she talked generally, given the events recently.

Today Levon Zurabyan, the ANC coordinator, confirmed during a conversation with us that the ANC headquarters in Erebuni had really been closed temporarily. When we inquired what the reason was, he replied, “Technical.” As for to what extent it was related to Tigran Ter-Petrosyan’s intention to withdraw from the Congress, Mr. Zurabyan also assured that there was no such thing whatsoever, “Yesterday Tigran Ter-Petrosyan spent a few hours in the Congress office and serious issues were discussed.” To prove that Tigran had no such intention, Mr. Zurabyan called him on the spot, “Tigran, an Aravot journalist asks me whether it is right that Tigran has left the Congress, I say no, there is no such thing, she says there is.” Shortly afterwards, during a conversation with www.aravot.am, Tigran Ter-Petrosyan assured that he was in the Congress and had no wish to leave it. In his words, “Generally, there has never been an issue of my withdrawing or not withdrawing from the Congress.” He explained that they had closed the premises of the Erebuni headquarters, because they were very big premises and there was no point in using it at the moment, “We have found a

more convenient place, it was very big, it is pointless to use 400m² as only a headquarters for the moment. When we organized events related to the Congress, we held them in that headquarters. However, we hold those events in a different place now, therefore, keeping it was pointless. We thought of diminishing, to use a small part of those premises, since there was no point in using 400m², let alone not as a central headquarters. We have an election ahead of us, we have kept it since 2007, we have an election in 6 months, but since we have a few headquarters in Erebuni, why have they noticed that this one, specifically, has been closed?”
