“If Our Colleagues From the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Wish to Join This Struggle, No Problem,” Armen Martirosyan Says

February 22,2013 10:31

Even today there are people on the Heritage Party rostrum that are unacceptable for Armen Martirosyan as persons

Armen Martirosyan, the deputy leader of the Heritage Party, doesn’t think there will be any problem, if the Congress that blamed Raffi Hovhannisyan for legitimizing Serzh Sargsyan’s government before the election joins the Heritage Party. “It was their position before the election. They deemed it appropriate. Every political force makes its decision independently; there is no problem. If now they want to support Raffi Hovhannisyan and, most importantly, the people to exercise their right; we are only too glad about that. And Raffi Hovhannisyan himself also said that that rostrum was equally open for everyone,” Armen Martirosyan said during a conversation with www.aravot.am. There is an opinion that the ANC, using the current situation, will take the situation under its control and lead the opposition electorate stirred up, awakened by Raffi Hovhannisyan. This scenario doesn’t seem horrible to Armen Martirosyan. “The Heritage Party has never been guided by partisan interests. It has always been important for us to solve the problem. By the way, there are people from the Congress who have already joined – for example, Nikol Pashinyan, the Democratic Path Party led by Manuel Gasparyan. Therefore, there is no problem here. As for the leadership; it is clear that the people with their vote are leading here. The people have already chosen their representative.” In response to our observation that the goals of the Heritage Party and the Congress, the ideas they spread were different, and it was hard to imagine Zaruhi Postanjyan next to, say, Gagik Jhangiryan, he said: “There have been many cases when the Heritage Party united impudent people, from newspapers of different orientation that struck blows against the Heritage Party to confronting parties that sat at the Heritage Party table. Even today there are people on the rostrum whom I don’t accept as men, individuals, persons. But this is a political struggle, and not personal. Therefore, to us, as we have said, the important thing is unity in that struggle and not our personal aspirations.” We asked to clarify whether he meant that even though Zaruhi Postanjyan thought of Gagik Jhangiryan as a murderer, he and she could be in the same team, he said: “Let me not answer that question, because Gagik Jhangiryan is not in the team yet.”
