Europe and we. Who are the “liberasts”?

March 15,2014 17:21

And why there is a struggle against them in Russia. As far as the word “liberast” is recently quite often used in Armenian-speaking environment, I tried to understand what it means. The genealogy is simple: it is the combination of liberal and the blasphemous name of homosexual. In other words, those who support the liberal philosophical, political, or economic trend, either they are the representatives of sexual minorities, or, at best, the warm advocates of these sexual minorities.

In short, something that has a negative perception among the vast circles of the society, and is combined to something, which these vast circles are unaware about, and as a result, by the concept of people using this term, the second one is discredited. In the Internet, I tried to understand from Russian sources of how this concept is interpreted. I would like to note that, by the way, the entries mainly were made in too illiterate Russian.

Surprisingly, with what kind of contempt the advocates of their identity or “special path” are treating their native language. We can draw the following from the most oft-repeated statements, liberasts are those who want Russia to be subjected to the West, who are fighting not for freedom rather than against Russia, who are funded by the dark forces of the West. Since the processes taking place in Russia after September 3 are more than ever reflected in our Armenian reality, our compatriots and co-citizens who are working in favor of the Customs Union, are widely practicing this notion. Therefore, perhaps, it is worthy to say couple of word about it. First, noting the traditional sexual orientation of a person should not be a curse. It is the private affair of given person, in which the public or the the “nation” should not poke their nose into his affair. Just like a man is free in his political and philosophical beliefs. In this regard, a true liberal should remain liberal at all levels, both political and domestic. I find it hard to imagine a person who, let’s say, is in favor of a free market economy, however, at home it is prohibiting his wife to go to work, or, in the office, he is dismissing his employee from work on the grounds that he or she has a non-traditional sexual orientation. In other words, tolerance and width of thinking either is available or not. If available, it should refer both the right to express personal opinion and the private life, including sexual orientation. On the background of the next radical deterioration of relations between Russia and the West, this term is also extensively used in Armenia in the sense of a “traitor of national interest,” and “servicing the West”. If you, for example, have some doubts about Russia’s actions in the Crimea, you are definitely a “liberast”.

In a country, where the government has already begun to shut down the websites that “call for illegal rallies”, naturally, it is really uncomfortable to talk about freedoms and liberalism. It remains to discredit these ideas. It is not yet clear why we that are at least ahead of Russia in this sense should imitate our strategic partner.
