In 1970’s, the Soviet propaganda was much talking and writing about the Great Patriotic War: songs, books, movies, and part of them were highly valuable from the artistic point of view. I have long thought why it is so. Of course, there were many reasons, including the participation of the first face of the country in this war, although, of course, not in the leading roles. (The fact that Brezhnev was granted the title of Marshal, of course, was insanity and an anecdote). However, the main reason was that in this episode of the Soviet history, our country then was morally correct.
We were attacked, and we defended ourselves. Regardless of what criminal agreements Stalin’s regime had reached with the German Nazis prior to the war. Also, regardless of what kind of unjustified deaths the Soviet army gave during the war. In fact, the law adopted in Russia reading that it is a crime to talk about the errors made at the Great Patriotic War, it is already a modern insanity. Anyway, all of these does not change the undeniable fact that our grandparents had fought for their, our common country, and we have to bow in front of their heroic deeds.
In the Karabakh war, we were also morally correct. Here, we were also attacked, and we defended ourselves. Moreover, the enemy was professing and is still practicing the same misanthropic and racist ideology typical to the German Nazis. If the current leadership of Azerbaijan believes that by introducing these ideas in their people’s heads it is possible to move forward and succeed, then it is crucial (for them) delusion.
Prior to Artsakh war, during the war and especially after it, there were and are numerous disgusting phenomena. Anyway, this also cannot cast a shadow on the fact that our people were defending its own land in the front and the rear. And, this case allows us not only to bow before the courage of our soldiers, but also be proud of. That we Armenians and citizens of Armenia.
