“In republican, democratic societies such as the US, we can talk about how democratic the US was because the arguments indicate that the US is receding into a non-democratic and authoritarian country”, said one of the most famous independent US journalists, David Barsamian.
According to him, “We have a regime in Washington, which is managed by someone who is the least qualified and one of the worst presidents in the US history. This is very bad for the US and for the world because the US has a huge impact on the world, and the fact that Trump possesses the nuclear bomb, it’s a very dangerous period everywhere and in the world history”. Mr. Barsamian said, when people are afraid, twaddlers easily control them, “As we see in Trump’s case, who frightens Americans with issues of Mexicans, Muslims, and immigrants, so they keep silent, and then he can come and say, I will protect you, just vote for me”.
According to the American-Armenian journalist, Trump must be considered as a part of authoritarian direction in the world, “The same is with Erdogan in Turkey, Viktor Orban in Hungary, and so on. This is an international trend toward authoritarian government, and the media have a huge role to legitimize this. You may think that India, which writes about Kashmir, is a democratic country, but for the recent six years I have been forbidden to visit there as a journalist”.
Mr. Barsamian said that every time, after he returns from overseas trips, the US government keeps him long for inquiries, to find out where he was, why, and who had provided the ticket.
