Lebanese-born Armenian commander and political activist Jirayr Sefilian’s defender Tigran Hayrapetyan claims that he does not recognize Hovhannes Petrosyan, a defendant in the case of Sefilian and others, as his client.
“Sefilian has never seen him, has never known. In his testimony, he said he had visited Sefilian’s home, Sefilian’s office, but nobody in Sefilian’s office or home know him, neither Sefilian does”, Tigran Hayrapetyan told Aravot.am.
According to the lawyer, his client has nothing to do with weapons. Let us remind that Hovhannes Petrosyan stated in his testimony that in order to carry out a power change, he took the weapons from the defendant Hrayr Topchyan, but as a result of the agreement with Sefilian.
“Now there is this weapon purchase scene being discussed, and I do not know who sold and who bought. According to Hrayr Topchyan he had handed his weapons Petrosyan, so that he would keep those. All this has nothing to do with my client… the idea of power change has been brought forth to tie Sefilian to this case. This power change idea is just a performance. So why did not any power change take place? And besides, do you believe that Sefilian is so unwise that he would try to change power by only two weapons, or to seize the television tower? Do you believe that once he seized the television tower, power change would take place? Nowadays web sites are in no way inferior to television, so that is illogical”, said lawyer Hayrapetyan.
Referring to Hayrapetyan’s statements that Sefilian has not recognized Hovhannes Petrosyan, the latter’s defender Arsen Mkrtchyan said: “Even if there were some contacts, what does it mean, that the case is fully reliable and that the charges are valid? Today we are proposing a hypothesis, and I am one of the authors of it, that if the weapons were not purposefully used, what revolution and armed group are they talking about? In this case, 90% of the Armenian population can be detained for the same charges as everyone
