As it is already known, the members of the Republican Party of Armenia, Shirak Torosyan and Mihran Poghosyan have also voted for the oppositional candidate Nikol Pashinyan.
In his speech, the head of the Republican faction Vahram Baghdasaryan mentioned, that those people, who were going to vote for Nikol Pashinyan, were operating according to the decision of the party, and hence, there is no need to stress those names, for they could be any other members of the RPA.
As stated by Aravot.am, Shirak Torosyan and Mihran Poghosyan’s votes in favor of Nikol Pashinyan however, were a surprise for the Republican Party. According to the preliminary agreement, the latter should have voted “against”. One of our interlocutors from the RPA even had some doubts, noting that while the members were agreeing on the list of those who would vote “for”, Shirak Torosyan and Mihran Poghosyan were silent. Whereas they could give voice to their will and rid other members from that “burden”, as some of the oligarch MPs, namely Arayik Grigoryan (Arayik of Avshar), had agreed to vote for Nikol Pashinyan quite reluctantly.
In his interview to Aravot.am, Shirak Torosyan said that he voted for his conscience and assured, that there were no shady agreements behind his vote: “That was the right way”. Torosyan refused to answer any other questions.
We have not yet been able to get in touch with Mihran Poghosyan.
According to our information, the RPA is going soon to make an announcement related to the vote of those two MPs, clarifying that they no more have anything to do with the party.
Let us remind, that Shirak Torosyan is not a member of the Republican Party, but the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament no longer stipulate any clause, according to which the MP can be expelled from the party. Let us also mention, that Mihran Poghosyan, the former head of the Compulsory Enforcement Service of Judicial Acts, was regarded to be sponsored by Serzh Sargsyan.
