“The revolution would not be velvet if the Constitution was not there. It is the basic law, whether we like it or not. If there are developments in the country, those should be within the law”, said Armenian President Armen Sarkissian referring to the “My Step” people’s movement. “If one day the Constitution changes again, it should be done by the will of the people. There are very few countries that have made a revolution without bloodshed…. in this sense we are “world champion”, he added.
Shant Harutyunyan’s son, Shahen Harutyunyan wanted to clarify whether the recent developments in Armenia, according to the President, were a revolution, or another definition could be given to those. “A revolution took place. People have come to power, whom the people trust and hope that all the promises will come true. It is a revolution, not a change”, Armen Sarkissian responded.
Shahen Harutyunyan disagreed: “It is trust towards the government, not revolution”. Armen Sarkissian agreed with this definition as well: “You can call it a revolution or a coup, it does not matter. The important thing is that people smile now”.
Then the coordinator of the “YSU Restart” Initiative David Petrosyan told the President, that as Armen Sarkissian pointed out, changes start from each of us. David Petrosyan did not ignore the fact that the President was late from the meeting for 15 minutes. First of all, Armen Sarkissian thanked for the remark, then apologized to those present, as he had to make urgent phone calls, because of which he was late.
